Arts and Education at The Glebe
Our enriched lifestyle focuses on continued learning, exploration and discovery. Abundant arts and education programming opens your life up to experiences as broad, beautiful and uplifting as the Roanoke Valley that surrounds us. Our wide variety of programs, events and outings inspire and entertain, with many of them created through resident input and feedback.
The Glebe Scholar Program
Our popular Glebe Scholar Program provides opportunities to participate in community engagement through lecture and discourse. The seminar series is led by professionals in their respective fields and provides residents with a creative outlet for learning and social interaction. Residents also have the opportunity to enjoy world-class musical concerts and performances sponsored by the Virginia Commission for the Arts.

In our beautiful art studio, classes are available for the beginner and the experienced artist. The Glebe has quite a few accomplished artists and many others who simply enjoy expressing themselves through the creative outlets of visual art. Each month, we showcase resident and local artists in the Gallery Walk.
Music is a part of life at The Glebe. Whatever your taste might be, there’s something for you. Local professional musicians from country to classical, jazz and gospel routinely visit. Informal concerts by residents take place regularly and don’t be surprised to find an impromptu sing-a-long breaking out around our two beautiful world-class Steinway Boston grand pianos!
The Roanoke area offers an impressive variety of outlets for art, music and theater. Regularly scheduled outings to the symphony, ballet and theater fill The Glebe’s seasonal calendars, as well as tours of historical landmarks.
If your interest is in woodworking, The Glebe has a well-equipped woodshop where residents can use their skills. It’s well equipped with woodworking and carpentry tools including a bandsaw, router, drills and table saws.
The Spinning Threads group uses their variety of skills, including quilting, needle pointing, knitting and crocheting to support the local Roanoke rescue mission. Our residents share their many talents and support the annual craft show that benefits the VBH Foundation Benevolent Fund through woodworking projects, jewelry, jams, scarves and other handmade gifts.
