Caring for an aging loved one with Alzheimer’s disease or other forms of cognitive decline can be difficult. What’s even harder is making the decision to have someone else care for a loved one. That’s why we’re proud to announce our Memory Care neighborhood at The Glebe is here to provide innovative and compassionate Alzheimer’s and dementia care by our team of certified practitioners in the Roanoke, VA area.
The Glebe’s Cornerstone Memory Care program is the solid foundation on which the principles of care are set. It is the building block that supports and empowers individuals through self-directed living. The Cornerstone program represents strength of community, the tradition of quality and the legacy of excellence.
The Cornerstone program is how the individual can experience a vibrant life through seven guiding principles:
- Purposeful living in a comfortable, safe environment
- Compassionate, specially trained team members
- Life Story: learning your loved one’s preferences, lifelong routines, wishes, history
- Meaningful relationships and belonging
- Resident and family engagement
- Ability-focused care
- Vibrancy, faith, wellness, community
A main feature of our new Memory Care community is based on the innovative Small Household model. This offers a safe, secure and interpersonal homelike atmosphere that isn’t as overwhelming as large-scale institutional settings.
Each specialized household is designed to accommodate up to 5 residents, with private bedrooms organized around a shared living-dining-kitchen area with access to a secure outdoor courtyard. These intimate households support person-centered dementia care and relationships among residents, their families and professional caregivers – an important factor given that social support has long been known to have a positive effect on an individual’s emotional and physical health and well-being.
The Glebe does accept direct admissions for residency in Memory Care, provided space is available. Please call or email us for information on current availability or residency requirements.
