March 31: COVID-19 Update

Monday, Gov. Ralph Northam, issued a statewide Stay-at-Home Executive Order to protect Virginians and mitigate the spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19).  The order takes effect immediately and will remain in place until June 10.

The order directs Virginians to stay home except in extremely limited circumstances.  The allowable leave guidance outlines medical attention, work, care for household members and obtaining goods like groceries and prescriptions.

We continue to ask residents at The Glebe to stay home and shelter in place as a protective measure from possible exposure.  Added services have helped stave off the need for residents to leave the campus and visit area stores and businesses.

Some of these services include:

  1. Three meals a day delivered to apartments and cottages
  2. In-house grocery items delivered
  3. Prescription medication pick-up and delivery
  4. Kroger order entry and delivery services

We thank everyone for their ongoing effort in the utilization of these services as they shelter in place.  Please note, however, that some residents continue to choose to leave the campus for various non-essential reasons: Fast food runs, drug store, post office, etc.  We implore you to keep yourself and your Glebe community neighbors safe by following the Governor’s Stay-at-Home Executive Order,

Community Updates

Screening Update:

Last Thursday, Glebe team members initiated a new screening checkpoint at the main entrance to the community/campus.  We are screening all staff and residents prior to entering the campus.  We are restricting access by visitors, vendors and service providers, only allowing necessary entry such as X-ray technicians, pharmacy, laboratory service and food purveyors.   This change has proven to be a successful approach to limiting risk to you and The Glebe community.

Package Delivery Update:

Research suggests COVID-19 can live for up to 72 hours on hard, shiny surfaces and up to 24 hours on cardboard, paper and fabrics. The guidance for general oversight to reduce the chance of spread is 72 hours. Therefore, to further support our position and strengthen our barrier against the spread of this virus, Glebe team members will screen all incoming packages and quarantine them for 72 hours prior to delivery. This will include any UPS and FedEx shipments.  Please note we will screen packages for perishables and pharmaceuticals. If you are expecting a perishable shipment or a drug refill, please contact the receptionist so we may ensure appropriate delivery.

Personal Items Delivery Update:

To further protect our community/campus, Glebe team members will curtail the delivery of any personal items, such as laundry, gifts, foods and groceries from family members and friends.  The Glebe provides laundry service to all residents in our licensed areas, including health care, assisted living and memory care.  If you have questions please contact Joyce Horton, director of dining and housekeeping services, 591-2177.  If any resident needs assistance with grocery and food items please contact Robin Ward, resident services director, 591-2180.

Information Hot Line:

You may now call, 591-2598, to hear COVID-19 related messages with updates that impact The Glebe community, residents, families and visitors.  You may also go to The Glebe’s COVID-19 Communications Hub and review memos.

The intent of the above outlined changes is solely for the protection of our residents, their families and our team members during the COVID-19 crisis.   Our focus continues to be preventing the spread of this virus into our Community.  The Glebe administration and staff very much appreciate your cooperation and understanding.  If you have any questions and/or concerns, please reach out to a member of management at the community.  As additional information develops, we will review and revise protocols restrictions as soon as it is prudent to do so.
