June 5: COVID-19 Update

The leadership teams at The Glebe and LifeSpire of Virginia are committed to ensuring the safety and health of our residents, families, team members, vendors and contractors. The Glebe and LifeSpire of Virginia communities serve the population most vulnerable to COVID-19 and strive to take the appropriate steps to limit the spread of the coronavirus.

As a reminder, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid services have three defined phases for licensed areas related to any loosening of restrictions.  The senior living industry draws a vast distinction between care levels however, and the governor’s orders do not address this distinction.

The Glebe’s leadership team has begun to plan and propose a re-opening from COVID-19 in a very strategic and tactical approach.  The safety of our resident population is paramount, and until a cure in the form of a vaccine and/or antiviral is widely available, COVID-19 will present a constant balancing between individual liberties—which are so important to residents and families—and the risk of transmission of this disease. Until this cure is found, precautionary measures will be the only arrow in our quiver.

The Glebe’s re-opening plan objective is to improve the quality of life for residents and continue to mitigate risk of disease transmission. Please keep in mind this is a work in progress and we may need to pull back on the reins if we see a positive case at The Glebe or the governor changes state guidance due to resurgence in COVID-19.
