The Glebe Confirms Five Cases of COVID-19

On June 29, The Glebe started baseline testing team members and residents in health care, assisted living and memory care in order to move to Phase II of the reopening process for higher levels of care. A total of 181 tests were administered to 102 staff members and 79 residents, 112 of the results have been returned. On July 4, The Glebe received notification of four team members testing positive for COVID-19. The four team members work in the health care, memory care and assisted living neighborhoods as CNAs or nurses. The management team reported the positive test results to the Virginia Department of Health (VDH) per the guidelines set forth by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). The team members are asymptomatic and are self-quarantining at home.

Additionally, today, a resident in independent living reported testing positive for COVID-19. Management is currently undergoing a detailed contract tracing process to determine who this resident may have had recent close contact with. Anyone identified by this contact tracing will be notified by team members.

The management team is closely monitoring residents in the assisted living, memory care and health care areas of the community to ensure that everyone is in good health.  The team notified community members about possible exposure, has been in touch with VDH and is following all necessary precautions and guidelines set forth by CMS. Additionally, all team members are following disease transmission-based guidelines as set forth by VDH to limit the spread of the virus.

Starting July 4, The Glebe recommends that all independent living residents return to the “Stay Home Stay Safe” self-quarantining guideline for the next seven days. This will give staff time to work with VDH officials to determine the scope of the potential outbreak. This means independent living common areas and dining venues will be closed. When independent living residents leave their apartment, they should wear a mask, socially distance from others and frequently sanitize hands. No outside visitors will be allowed on the campus. If independent living residents leave campus, they should take all precautions noted above. The Glebe will begin offering independent living meal delivery starting July 4. This guidance will be revisited no later than seven days from today.

Everyone who enters the community is being screened daily, as recommended by CMS. Each team member has been educated regarding the process of self-reporting which includes travel history and signs/symptoms of respiratory illness.
