The Glebe Confirms Three Additional Cases of COVID-19

Management Team Outlines Baseline Testing Response Protocol

The management team at The Glebe is working together to keep residents, families and team members safe and is committed to transparency related to baseline COVID-19 testing results. As of July 6, there are eight total positive cases of COVID-19 at The Glebe. This includes five team members and three residents: one in independent living which was reported July 4, one each in memory care and healthcare which were reported July 5. The team members work in health care, memory care and assisted living neighborhoods as CNAs or nurses.

A total of 181 tests were administered to 102 staff members and 79 residents for baseline testing that began on June 29. Twenty-nine tests are pending for team members. One hundred percent of the results for residents have been returned.

The family members of the residents have been notified of the test results and of the plan for isolation and care. The Glebe’s management team has also reported the positive test results to the Virginia Department of Health (VDH) per the guidelines set forth by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). The two residents who reside in higher levels of care are asymptomatic and are now quarantined on the COVID-19 isolation unit in health care.

The management team is following previously established baseline testing protocol related to positive COVID-19 cases. Prior to the baseline testing, team members working in the licensed areas were fit tested with N95 respirators and reeducated on the proper use of personal protective equipment.

Every resident in health care, assisted living and memory care has been isolated to their respective rooms to ensure everyone’s safety. Team members will continue to monitor all residents for signs and symptoms in line with the guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, CMS and VDH.

The following is an outline of the current response related to baseline testing protocol plan:

  • The two residents who are positive for COVID-19 have been moved to the hot isolation care area located on the back hall of health care.
  • The team members assigned to the hot isolation care area will only work with those residents.  The team members assigned tested negative during the baseline testing and did not have direct contact with any team member who tested positive.
  • Positive results for residents and team members will be managed according to the guidance provided by the Roanoke/Alleghany Health District.
  • The Roanoke/Alleghany Health District may interview team members and residents who have tested positive for COVID-19 for the purposes of contract tracing. This contact tracing may result in additional team members self-isolating at home until cleared for safe return to work as required by the health district.
  • Residents who were in close contact with those who tested positive for COVID-19 may also be required to self-quarantine in a warmisolation care area at The Glebe.

The Glebe recommends that all independent living residents return to the “Stay Home, Stay Safe” self-quarantining guideline for the next seven days to give team members time to work with VDH officials to ensure proper response to this potential outbreak.

Independent living common areas and dining venues are closed. When independent living residents leave their apartment, they should wear masks; social distance from others and frequently sanitize hands. For everyone’s safety during this potential outbreak, no outside visitors will be allowed on the campus. If independent living residents leave campus, they should take all precautions noted above. This guidance will be revisited in the coming days.

As recommended by CMS, everyone who enters The Glebe will be screened daily. Each team member has been educated regarding the process of self-reporting which includes travel history and signs/symptoms of respiratory illness.

The Glebe’s management team will share additional information as more test results are received. Please check the COVID-19 communications hub at https://glebeprd.wpengine.com/blog/covid19/ for up to date communications. Questions may be submitted via email at [email protected] or 540-591-2104.
