November 2: COVID-19 Update

On November 2, The Glebe’s leadership team learned that three residents and a nurse who live and work in the memory support area tested positive for COVID-19.

The nurse, who last worked at The Glebe on October 27, reported symptoms the following day and was tested by a physician on October 29. The nurse reported back to The Glebe’s team this morning that the test was positive. The nurse has been removed from the schedule and is recovering at home.

On October 27, a resident was hospitalized for another matter. That resident was cleared for discharge and was screened by the hospital before return to The Glebe. That test was positive for COVID-19 this morning. This resident is still at the hospital at this time.

Due to these two positive tests, The Glebe’s leadership team began rapid testing of all team members and residents in the memory support area. As a result, two additional residents have tested positive for COVID-19. Contact tracing is underway to determine if the residents or the team member had any close contact with anyone else in the community.

On a separate note, the Glebe’s leadership team also learned today that a member of the assisted living clinical team member has tested positive for COVID-19. At this time, it appears this positive case is unrelated from those in the memory support area. This team member became symptomatic on October 30 and sought testing. All team members and residents in assisted living will also be tested.

All memory support and assisted living residents are on isolation at this time and meals will be delivered to the resident rooms. Out of an abundance of caution, all visitation to licensed areas is suspended for at least 14 days.

The Virginia Deparatment of Health and the Department of Social Services have been notified of these positive tests. The Glebe’s team continues to follow all recommended guidelines for infection prevention and spread.

The Glebe’s team urges all residents and team members to continue wearing masks and using proper hand hygiene. Everyone will continue to be screened before entry into the community. All team members are required to wear facial coverings.
