December 28: COVID-19 Update

The Glebe’s management team learned that 3 staff members tested positive for COVID-19 during the state-mandated testing conducted on December 28th. The team members are asymptomatic and self-quarantining at home until the Virginia Department of Health (VDH) return-to-work criteria are met.

Contact tracing revealed that 2 of the team members had close contact with residents in health care.   Due to the nature of contact during nursing care, all Residents on health care have been quarantined and placed on droplet precautions.  Residents in Health Care will have baseline testing on Thursday, December 31st and again 7 days later January 7th.   No other team members or residents are showing signs or symptoms of the virus.

The positivity rate for Botetourt County is still in the red zone at 21.6%.  As an update, during last week’s testing, a member of the therapy team tested positive. Contact tracing determined that residents in every level of care may have been exposed by this positive team member.  Any resident who had close contact with this team member has already been contacted and tested.  All the results were negative. These residents will be retested in seven days on December 31st and will remain in quarantine.  Visitation and activities in the health care, assisted living, memory care, and independent living have been suspended until January 11th.

The Glebe’s leadership team has issued a “Stay Home Stay Safe” request for residents in all areas of the community.   This request continues to urge residents to stay in their respective apartments, cottages, and rooms until January 11th.  Please keep in mind the high positivity rate in our area as you make decisions regarding outside appointments and shopping.
