August 1: COVID-19 Update

Amid a pandemic, it may seem hard to focus on good news. However, for residents, team members and families at The Glebe, there is a lot to be thankful for.

Some of the big picture positives are:

  • Virginia has moved into, and remains in, Phase 3 primarily due to a collaborative effort to stay home and stay safe.
  • The number of positive COVID-19 cases are stable in four of the state’s five regions.
  • More individuals are wearing face coverings and practicing social distancing in public spaces – directly impacting outcomes.

The Glebe has a lot to celebrate as well. Everyone at the community has worked together during these past several months in a unified effort against COVID-19 to stay safe and well. The community recently announced several new updates to protocols and precautions as it pertains to socializing safely for the following items.

  • Care services and baseline testing
  • Dining services
  • Wellness services
  • Social services and chaplaincy
  • Salon
  • Transportation
  • Deliveries
  • Activities

New Visitation Guidance

Also, the community is excited to announce updated guidance for visitors to the community. This is welcomed news for everyone at The Glebe. The guidelines pertain to scheduling appointments, screening, parking, visitation and post-visitation. While there are still some limitations with this experience, The Glebe is very pleased to initiate this next step in re-engagement with the residents.

Health Care, Assisted Living and Memory Care

Starting Tuesday, August 4, family members, loved ones and friends will be able to enjoy a 30-minute, one-on-one, visit with a resident in a designated safe visitation room for health care, assisted living and memory care. For health care residents, a visitation space will be provided in the health care activities room, assisted living residents will utilize the third floor cctivities room and memory care will utilize the parlor in the Chaplick Center.

  • Visits will be offered Monday-Friday, 9 a.m.-2:30 p.m., scheduled on the hour.
  • Times may be adjusted after 30 days once the community has an opportunity to evaluate how the process is proceeding and what best meets residents’ needs.
  • The community is initiating a phased approach by the audience.
    • Spouses of residents begin Tuesday, August 4 -August 7
    • POAs of residents in the licensed areas begin the week of Monday, August 10
    • Family and friends of residents begin the week of Monday, August 17

NOTE: For questions and more information regarding visitation, please contact Derek Rohrig at 540-591-2270.

Independent Living

Family members and friends may again visit residents in their independent living apartment/cottage. All visitors are required to wear face masks during their visit and limit visitors to no more than two family/friends in the apartment/cottage at once. Residents may also take visitors to the Alleghany Dining Room and Depot Café with reservations and proper face covering.

The Glebe management team expresses tremendous appreciation for the ongoing support and patience as the community is now able to increase visitation and socialization for everyone at the community.
