The Glebe Community Outreach -- 2007

As a corporate partner, The Glebe is proud to support the following educational, cultural, and service organizations. Read our news releases for details of some of the specific ways in which The Glebe provides this support.

Dabney S. Lancaster Community College Educational Foundation
The Glebe is a sponsor of the 2007 Bubbles, Bands, and Brunch, September 23, 2007, an annual fundraiser for scholarships. Anne Brugh, a resident of The Glebe, has served on the Foundation Board for many years. The Foundation was established in 1980 and its mission is to support Dabney S. Lancaster Community College helping to provide an accessible, quality education for students in the College’s service area. The Foundation also provides faculty grants and helps the College in the purchase of up-to-date technology for the classroom.

FiddleFest Foundation
The Glebe was the major sponsor/presenter for Roanoke Fiddle Fest 2007. FiddleFest is held annually in July. The mission of FiddleFest is to provide the best in traditional string music programs, and to provide the venue for performances, discussion, instruction, and preservation of this uniquely American art form. The purpose of the Foundation is to provide funding for this festival and its off-shoot programs like the Festival Documentary. The Foundation established a scholarship program for students who wish to pursue a course of study in music. The Foundation also supports Center in the Square, Hollins University, Rotary Club of Roanoke and other local service organizations. Another outreach through FiddleFest is the Fitzpatrick Gala at the Link Museum in November 2007. Mr. Fitzpatrick is the official artist of FiddleFest and to date has created four special art works depicting scenes at FiddleFest. The Gala will feature these works along with 40 other of his works. Also, the top young artists from seven area high schools will display their works at this show. Each of these schools will receive a grant for its arts program in return for participation in the event.

Volunteer Fire and Rescue Squads of Troutville, Fincastle, and Read Mountain
The Glebe makes an annual contribution to these fire departments and rescue squads. In 2006, Dot Leary, Resident of The Glebe, along with R. Stephen McElmurray, Interim Executive Director, visited each of these departments/squads to personally deliver the checks as well as several dozen boxes of fresh baked cookies from The Glebe for each volunteer who gives of his/her. Dot’s husband had served as a volunteer fireman for many years in their local fire department, and she enjoyed visiting with the volunteers and thanking them for all they do for The Glebe and the larger community. The dedicated volunteers give of their time to provide for the safety and protection of the property of the citizens of their services areas
