Prom Night at The Glebe

On Saturday, April 21, The Glebe retirement community in Daleville hosted the Second Annual Red Carpet Event for student employees who attend Lord Botetourt High School. Along with the residents, a large gathering of parents, siblings, grandparents, and other friends from school joined in the festivities. They looked on from the front foyer and entrance hallway that was lined with the "red carpet". The 25 couples were introduced and each young lady was presented with a long stemmed red rose. Each couple received a photograph as a memento of the event. Applause and cheering could be heard has each couple walked the red carpet. Several couples who were friends of the student employees joined in the festivities and had their photos taken at the Gazebo in the Meditation Garden at the entrance of the community. The event concluded with the students driving off to dinner and the prom. Parents said this was an absolutely wonderful event and thanked The Glebe for giving the students this special added memory of prom night.

In addition to staying up-to-date through their daily conversations with one another, residents are among the most avid fans of the school's sports teams and regularly support the students by attending games as well as drama productions, recitals, etc.

When asked about the friendship among the two generations, the students say that the residents are sweet and amazing and are interested in their activities and what they are doing. Both students and residents enjoy this cross-generational friendship. It is special to see and even more special to experience as a part of everyday life at The Glebe.
