As a civil engineer, Dan Janosko helped keep the transmission lines of Appalachian Power humming for over 30 years from Wheeling, West Virginia to Lynchburg, Virginia. Appalachian Power hired hundreds of electrical engineers, but very few civil engineers. Dan jokingly says that this often made him feel like a second-class citizen—until something went wrong. He smiles as he says, “Then we had to go out on site and get things up and running again.” As you might expect, Dan’s life at The Glebe is far from sedentary. He is active at nearby Bonsack Baptist Church, where he sings in the choir, helps with the building’s maintenance, consults on construction projects and even volunteers to drive the bus on occasion. And he finds time to volunteer for Habitat for Humanity. He sums up his life at The Glebe with a simple statement, “This is where I’m supposed to be.” And the way Dan says this, you know he’s right.
