Arts and Education at The Glebe
A vibrant, fulfilling lifestyle in the Roanoke Valley in Virginia
At The Glebe, our enriched lifestyle focuses on continued learning, exploration, and discovery. Abundant arts and education programming opens your life up to experiences as broad, beautiful, and uplifting as the Roanoke Valley that surrounds us. Our wide variety of programs, events, and outings inspires and entertains our residents. With resident-centered programming, if we aren’t offering what you enjoy or like, let us know. We create our programming through resident input and feedback.
Our popular Glebe Scholar Program provides residents with opportunities to participate in community engagement through lecture and discourse. The seminar series is led by professionals in their respective fields and provides residents with a creative outlet for learning and social interaction. In addition to the Glebe Scholar Program, residents also have the opportunity to enjoy world-class musical concerts and performances sponsored by the Virginia Commission for the Arts. See the Arts and Entertainment program guide of live performances and events at The Glebe.
In addition to the rich cultural and educational opportunities at The Glebe, residents are able to enjoy old hobbies or develop new ones:
Visual Arts — Art classes are available for the beginner and the experienced. The Glebe has quite a few accomplished artists and many others who simply enjoy expressing themselves through the creative outlets of visual art. Each month, we showcase resident and local artists in the Gallery Walk. The monthly display of the Gallery Walk opens with an artists’ reception.
Performing Art — Music is a part of life at The Glebe. Whatever your taste in music might be, there is something for you. Sing-a-longs and informal concerts by residents for other residents take place regularly.
Cultural Trips and Events — The Glebe regularly schedules outings to cultural events and to historical points of interest. Trips to the symphony, the ballet, and theater fill The Glebe’s seasonal calendars, as well as tours of historical landmarks. The Roanoke area offers an impressive variety of outlets for art, music, and theater including: the Roanoke Symphony Orchestra, the Roanoke Ballet Theatre, the Taubman Museum of Art, the Virginia Museum of Transportation, Science Museum of Western Virginia, O. Winston Link Museum, History Museum of Western Virginia, and the Harrison Museum of African American Culture. See the calendar for upcoming trips.
Woodshop — If your interest is in woodworking, The Glebe has a well-equipped woodshop where residents can use their skills.
Crafts and Caring — The craft group uses their variety of skills to make items for our troops overseas, dolls for needy children, and crafts to sell for worthy causes.
