Recital II: Thursday, Sept. 29 – 7 p.m.
A curated program featuring preludes and fugues Nos. 5-8 from J.S. Bach’s second book of the Well-Tempered Clavier. Other pieces by different composers and of different genres will be included that continue the pianist’s story as a musician growing up in San Francisco.
This recital series serves as the culmination of a quest to learn all 24 preludes and fugues in the second volume of J.S. Bach’s Well-Tempered Clavier. Each recital will feature four preludes and fugues, juxtaposed with classical music and music of other genres that have shaped and influenced the pianist’s life. Holding all of the recitals together, a narrative touching on Erica Sipes’ life and discussing what each prelude and fugue means to her will weave through all six performances.
Pianist Erica Sipes studied piano performance at the Eastman School of Music where she graduated with her bachelor’s and master’s degrees. She is a piano collaborator, accompanying both young musicians and professionals and has also taught at Radford University in addition to performing with the Roanoke Symphony Orchestra. She has performed in the annual Carole Edwards and Friends concert at The Glebe for the past two seasons. Her blog, “Beyond the Notes,” has earned her a reputation around the world and has been required reading for a course taught at the famed Juilliard School of Music in New York City.
Erica requests your consideration of a donation to support Children’s Trust Roanoke Valley during this recital series.
