The Glebe’s road to financial success was paved with challenges, but with hard work and faith, The Glebe overcame these adversities. Today The Glebe is proud to report a flourishing community with strong leadership and residents from throughout Virginia, Maryland and other states from around the county. This success story is one of a community that persevered and came out strong.
The Glebe’s early story was bumpy with local flooding and building delays from the onset, putting the community behind schedule and frustrating progress of the state-of-the art Continuing Care Retirement Community. The first of its kind in Daleville, Virginia, The Glebe was and is supported by Virginia Baptist Homes (now LifeSpire of Virginia), a not-for-profit, faith-based organization headquartered in Richmond. In 2008, Botetourt County challenged The Glebe’s not-for-profit status, and the case went to court causing unrest and frustration. The Virginia Supreme Court heard the case and supported The Glebe’s not-for-profit status. Even the Botetourt County district supervisor agreed that “The Glebe is truly a great asset to Botetourt County. I regret we created a bump in the road for both them and us along the way and I wish them all of the success they deserve.”
Ensuing financial struggles plagued the community as a result of these challenges, and financial restructuring became necessary as a result. However, with the support of the parent company, leadership and The Glebe’s own residents, the community persevered. Joe Kelly, the chief financial officer of LifeSpire of Virginia, The Glebe’s parent company, noted that the community was the first Continuing Care Retirement Community to go through significant financial restructuring and come out with the same management.
The adversity of those bumpy years brought residents together, and today The Glebe is stronger than ever. The Glebe’s management practices are designed to listen, watch and improve. They focus on establishing the same goals and motivations for every individual staff member, because they know they can achieve excellence when all work together.
A testament to the many great accomplishments in recent years is the high occupancy rate, high demand for Independent Living apartments and the reputation for quality care in both Assisted Living and skilled health care areas. The Glebe is now a vital and proud part of Botetourt County and the greater Roanoke Valley area.
