Ben Burks, Ph.D., Executive Director

Ben_Burks,_Executive_DirectorBen Burks, Ph.D., was named executive director of the Glebe effective Monday, September 16, 2013. Previously, from 2003-13, he served as a vice president of Virginia Mennonite Retirement Community in Harrisonburg, Virginia. Ben comes to The Glebe with a strong background in resident satisfaction, strategic planning, wellness, technology and innovation. He is a licensed Nursing Home Administrator in the state of Virginia. He is also an ordained elder in the Virginia Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church.

Burks holds a Bachelor of Arts in mathematics from the University of Virginia; a Master’s of Divinity and a theological master’s from Duke University; and a Ph.D. in Leadership and Policy from the University of Virginia.

Helen Burnett, Marketing Director

Helen_Burnett,_Marketing_DirectorHelen Burnett joined The Glebe as Director of Sales and Marketing in July 2013. She brings more than 10 years’ experience in sales and marketing with senior communities in the Roanoke Valley, as well as considerable experience from her 20-plus years at The Roanoke Times. Burnett graduated from Thiel College with a B.A. in French and later returned to West Virginia University, where she received a B.S. in Business Administration.

 

 

 

 

Ellen D’Ardenne, NHA Director of Health and Wellness Services

Ellen_D’Ardenne,_NHAEllen D’Ardenne became a member of The Glebe family on May 23, 2005, as the director of dining services. After 25 years of food service management in the hotel, restaurant, and senior living industry,D’Ardenne was looking for a new challenge. In May 2006, D’Ardenne began a Health Care Administration degree program, which led to her becoming a Licensed Nursing Home Administrator in June2010. With experience in Assisted Living Administration and Skilled Nursing Management, she further expanded her role in April 2011 by assuming leadership of The Glebe’s Health and Wellness programs.

 

 

Brandon Evans, BSN, Director of Nursing 

Brandon_Evans,_BSNBrandon Evans joined The Glebe in March 2011. Evans is a Registered Nurse who has come up “through the ranks” starting as a nursing assistant, progressing to a Licensed Practical Nurse and then obtaining his Registered Nurse license. Evans’ nursing background includes supervisory responsibilities over a large Skilled Nursing program with more than 180 skilled beds, Infection Control, Quality Improvement and Staff Development.

Brandon received his Associate in Science, Registered Nursing Cum Laude from Virginia Western Community College, and he is a member of Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society. He received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the Jefferson College of Health Science.

 

Joyce Horton, Director of Dining and Housekeeping Services

Joyce_HortonJoyce Horton joined The Glebe in January 2006. A Certified Dietary Manager, Horton came to The Glebe with 20-plus years of management experience in various capacities. Since Horton began at The Glebe she has shown dedication, loyalty, and a strong desire to excel. Throughout her years of employment at The Glebe, Horton has demonstrated her exceptional managerial skills and was promoted to director of dining services in March 2011. Horton completed her Certified Dietary Degree from the University of Florida.
